We actually had fun shooting all day–we are friends with Solomiya’s brother Vlad (who gave the most heartfelt toast!), who is the main photographer at Voir Photography.  You can see their beautiful wedding pictures on his blog.

When we shoot wedding films, it is so important to find a way to creatively edit the film so that we can tell the couple’s story in a unique way.  Their “trash the dress” session at Ocean Shores gave us the inspiration we needed. We blended their vows (in Ukrainian) with music and images to set the mood for their film. We decided to translate Vlad’s toast from Ukrainian with subtitles so everyone could follow along!

Our trip to Alaska was a new experience for us in many ways.  Neither of us had ever been to Alaska AND it was our first time taking all of our equipment on a plane.  Imagine packing a steadicam, glide track, tripod, monopod, 3 cameras, lenses. . .  there wasn’t much room left for clothing!  Needless to say, we were a little crazy packing and worrying as we stayed up all night waiting for our 4:30 am trip to the airport. The moment we handed our checked bags to the agent, it was like the world was lifted off our backs!  And you know what, we were totally under-weight on our suitcases. We really could have squeezed more equipment–or a new wardrobe–into those bags!

The weather was windy, sunny, cool, and foggy. We were shocked by how late the days really lasted–at 10pm it felt like 5pm in Seattle. The “golden-hour” lasted for about 6 hours. It was awesome!

Max and Tamila absolutely showed us a great time!  More importantly, they had a wonderful wedding that came together with so much support from their family and friends. People flew in from as far away as Pennsylvania and Iowa and “nearby” places like Delta Junction, Alaska.  We have so many great memories from this trip!!  A big THANK YOU and CONGRATS to Max & Tamila!!!

The FED camera was named for Felix Edmundovich Dzerzhinskiy, the founder of the Soviet state security agency “Cheka” which later became the KGB.  The FED 1 was first built in Kharkov, Ukraine in 1934.  Their design is based upon German Leica cameras.  The FED 5B was built from 1977 through the mid-1990s.  They are no longer made today.

The camera operates on manual–there are controls for aperture and shutter speed. We bought Kodak 400 ISO film.  We played around with our Canon 5D mkII to help us with the settings (since we’d never used a film camera on manual before).  We were shocked with the results!! Below you see a candid shot of Nikita taken on the 5D (top) and the FED 5B (bottom).  Both are straight out of the camera:

I love the film tint of the FED 5B and the soft focus it has.  Here’s another example from Thanksgiving dinner:

This time the FED 5B is on the top while the Canon 5D mkII is on the bottom.  The digital camera is sharper, but there’s something very appealing to the film look.

The next day, we had fun going to the park to take some family pics with the camera–its low-light as well as bright-light capabilities are great!!

We are finally settling into a routine with our new little one – as much as you can have a routine with a new baby who grows and changes every day.  We do most of our work these days at night–Nikita’s fussiest time is around 3am and we’ve found it easiest to stay up until then. Which means we go to bed around dawn and sleep until the afternoon.  We are so lucky to both have flexible schedules and work at home!

In the past week we have gotten back to a good working routine.  Jennifer has been working with many new couples, including the silent auction winners from last week’s Get Hitched, Give Hope.  Sasha is back to the ‘editing cave’ and clearing out our editing queue.  We have no events all winter and for this we are glad–we have time to finish up our past obligations, we can enjoy life as a new family, and focus our energy on making next summer’s wedding season AMAZING!

Over the next few months, we will be blogging some new highlights films–we have some really creative edits to share! However, finishing our past feature film edits is our priority. So hold tight and check back occasionally for new films and new baby pics

This year’s event is Thursday, October 27th from 6-9pm, at the Four Seasons hotel in downtown Seattle. This year’s goal is to raise $75,000 to grant wishes for adult patients with life-threatening illnesses and their families, and ZinchukFilms is doing it’s part. We are donating a full wedding film package to the cause!!!

Last year, Taz and Channy won an extra-special Love Story film and it was so fun telling their story, which was shown at the wedding of their dreams.  This year we decided to up the ante and donate our ‘Vintage Fusion’ wedding film package—an over $2,500 value!  It includes up to 8 hours of wedding day coverage on high definition film AND vintage Super 8 film.  We will edit the events of the wedding day into a cinematic film that lasts up to 15 minutes.  This is an exciting way to remember the sounds and moments that made your day really special!!

This little man has brought such joy to our lives!

Robin & Dennis’s wedding was on a gorgeous July day at the Seattle Aquarium.  The bright sunlight posed a few challenges (shooting into the sun for the ceremony) but because of that challenging light we ended up with some gorgeous ceremony shots!   and despite the bright light, we love the way everything turned out!  It was such a fun film to put together–we decided to approach things a little differently: instead of highlighting live sound from the toasts or vows, we let the shots  flow with the music to tell the story of Robin & Dennis’s happy day!

Of course, this amazing day wouldn’t have come together so beautifully if not for the team Robin & Dennis pulled together:

We spent one Saturday afternoon shooting this Love Story Film and put it together to show at their intimate Hawaiian wedding.  They were so cute–slightly nervous during their individual interviews, they came alive when they were together.  Such a great couple! It was such an honor to be a part of their Love Story.
