Love Story: Steve + Karen | Seattle Wedding Cinematography

Is it possible to find true love on the internet? Steve and Karen certainly think so. However, it’s not an easy process to date only based upon a photo or two online and a short profile. This is the story of how Karen and Steve met . . . only slightly exaggerated

Steve and Karen are already experienced filmmakers. Steve has already created at least one independent full-length film, and Karen and his friends and family have all played roles. When it came to creating this Love Story, they were old pros. Together, Karen and Steve wrote the screenplay and it was a great joy to bring it to life on the silver screen at their fabulous wedding on Saturday. It was an amazing experience to hear the laughter echo through the halls of Seattle’s Sunset Club as their friends and family watched their story for the first time.

Valentin + Julia: Love Story

We had quite the adventure last Sunday with Valentin and Julia–hoping to do something out-of-the-ordinary for their engagement/love story session, we headed up to Mt. Rainier in search of snow. For the entire drive, the weather was changing every five minutes from rain to sun and back again. We had no idea what to expect! But the mountain pulled through and we had a ton of fun in the freezing snow, lush forests, and in a grassy field. We met lots of friends along the way–friendly dogs checking out our interviews; a herd of deer quietly munching on dinner. We even saw nature at work as clouds appeared over Mt Rainier. Most of all, it was great to get out of town, breathe some fresh air, and spend some time with this wonderful couple!

For the first time, we were able to shoot 24 frames-per-second on our Canon 5d Mark II cameras. An update came out last week that allowed us to shoot at the traditional film speed of actual film (as opposed to 30 fps on TV). This gives more depth to our images and we couldn’t be more pleased as to how it turned out!

Engagement: Valentin + Julia

When Julia and Valentin called to schedule their love story, we initially thought we’d go to a park, take nice photos, and be done. But when they sent us their song choice and we looked at the weather forecast, we got the idea to go up to Mt Rainier to do something a little different. The weather was unpredictable (as was forecasted), but it turned out incredible. We battled rain, sun, and snow to do one of the most fun shoots yet!

Engagement: Chris + Jodie

You’ve already seen their Love Story, now here are all their photos! We had so much fun with different locations and outfits. I love the glamorous look of their formal session at Golden Gardens/downtown Bellevue. Later we met for some casual fun slacklining (a.k.a. tightrope walking) and hanging out at Kerry Park. A fun weekend with a great couple!!

Love Story: Chris + Jodie

We have been so lucky to have such warm weather so early in Seattle. That means we’ve begun our spring engagement shoots early!

A few weeks ago we had the opportunity to shoot Chris & Jodie’s love story. We were recommended to them by friends, and as fellow Montanans (from Helena), Jodie and I found we have a ton in common. Chris is the perfect partner for Jodie–together they are so silly and fun. We had the best time with them–walking the beach in formal wear, hitting up Bellevue at sunset, and slack-lining (the real name for their tightrope-walking antics). Their story is as unique as they are–enjoy!

Engagement: Alex + Angela

What an amazing weekend in Seattle! I can’t believe it’s only the end of February and the cherry trees are beginning to bloom, daffodils are out, the skies are COMPLETELY blue, and it’s 60 degrees. A small part of me worries about what’s to come, but mostly, I’ve just been enjoying it!

Luckily for Alex and Angela, the weather was amazing this weekend and we were able to really get Seattle at its best. We had a quick engagement session at Alkai beach and it was a blast!

Engagement: Matt + Nikki

Nikki and I go way back–sisters in college (back in the sorority days)–but we haven’t seen each other in years. I was excited to hear of her engagement, and thrilled when she and Matt asked us to be their wedding photographer and videographer. The best part–aside from spending such a special day with an old friend and the love of her life–the wedding is in Hawaii!

We met to talk wedding plans at the McMenamins Edgefield in Oregon. It was great to catch up–and of course grab a few photos!

A lot has changed in the last several years, but friendship remains

This shoot turned out very fortuitously–we knew we had late November weather do deal with, so we got some bright balloons. No one anticipated that they would play such an important role in this love story! I love how we were able to really tell Ruslan and Lena’s story symbolically AND have a ton of fun!

Everything was shot on our Canon 5D mkII, and we’re in love! That camera has been my precious all summer for photos and I’m afraid I’ll never get it back after letting Alex use it this weekend to film. After we have a chance to post a clip, you’ll understand why he loves it so much!
